Bank statement guide

How to download a Capitec bank statement

On the Capitec app, open the account, tap the three dots, choose Statement, pick your dates and tap Share PDF Statement. The PDF carries an electronic bank stamp, and 1 to 3 months costs nothing on the app.

We are an independent South African site and are not affiliated with, or endorsed by, Capitec Bank. Menus in banking apps change; if a step below no longer matches what you see, the bank's own help pages listed under Sources have the final word.

Capitec has turned the stamped statement into a self-service job. A statement shared from the app goes out with an electronic bank stamp, which is generally what a landlord or a bond originator means when they ask for a stamped statement. For most people that removes the need to queue at a branch at all, though it is worth confirming with whoever asked.

Below are the routes Capitec offers, what each one costs under the current fee guide, and what to do when a statement will not open or will not upload. If you only want the short version: app, account, three dots, Statement, date range, Share PDF Statement.

Download a Capitec statement on the app

This is the route Capitec points people to, and it is the quickest. You need the current Capitec app on a supported phone. Capitec does not support its app on tablets.

  1. Sign in on the Capitec app.
  2. Choose the account you need the statement for.
  3. Tap the three dots in the top right corner.
  4. Tap Statement.
  5. Choose your date range.
  6. Tap Share PDF Statement and send it to the email address you want it to go to. Sending it to yourself first lets you check the dates before you forward it.

Stokvel accounts: every member can see statements on the app or get them at a branch, but only the main member can generate and share a personalised statement. Closing a notice deposit account? Download the statements you need first, because Capitec says you cannot reach them on the app once the account is closed.

Use Capitec online banking on a computer

Capitec lists "view and download statements" among the things online banking does, and online banking has no monthly subscription fee. Capitec does not publish a click-by-click path for it, so the steps below are as specific as we can honestly make them.

  1. Sign in to online banking from capitecbank.co.za.
  2. Select the account you need.
  3. Open the statements option for that account and choose the period.
  4. Download the PDF and save it somewhere you will find it again.

Online banking is not available for Stokvel accounts. Use the app or a branch instead.

Email a statement to yourself or to someone else

On Capitec, emailing a statement is not a separate service you sign up for. It is what the Share PDF Statement button does. Capitec's email statement terms describe each use as an instruction to the bank to send that statement to the address you choose.

That makes it the simplest way to get a statement straight to a letting agent or an accountant, already stamped, without downloading and attaching anything yourself.

  1. Follow the app steps above as far as choosing the date range.
  2. Tap Share PDF Statement.
  3. Send it to the recipient's email address, or to your own if you want to check it first.

We could not find a Capitec page describing an automatic monthly statement email for personal accounts. If you want one, ask the Client Care Centre on 0860 10 20 43.

No smartphone? Use USSD on *120*3279#

Capitec's feature-phone banking includes emailing statements, so a basic phone is enough to get a statement sent to an email address. You need to register for it at a branch first. If you have no airtime, Capitec says you can dial *130*3279# to buy some.

  1. Register for USSD banking at a Capitec branch, if you have not already.
  2. Dial *120*3279# from the phone you registered.
  3. Follow the prompts to the option for emailing statements. Capitec does not publish the exact menu wording, and it can change.
  4. Check your inbox for the statement.

Get a statement at a Capitec branch

A branch is the fallback when the app is not an option, for example if your phone was stolen or will not run the app. Capitec asks for your card and PIN for all branch transactions, along with fingerprint biometrics and photo identification.

  1. Take your Capitec card and your ID book or smart ID card to any branch.
  2. Ask for a statement and give the exact months you need.
  3. Confirm with your card, PIN and fingerprint when asked.
  4. Check the account number and the dates on the statement before you leave.

A 1 to 3 month statement costs R6.00 at a branch, against nothing on the app. The same R6.00 applies through the Client Care Centre and self-service terminals.

Stamped or unstamped: which one do you need?

Embassies, banks assessing a home loan and letting agents often ask for a stamped statement. What they want is some assurance that the document came from the bank and was not edited on the way. A plain PDF gives them nothing to check.

Capitec covers this in two ways. Statements shared from the app carry an electronic bank stamp, and Capitec documents carry a SkyQR code in the top right corner that the recipient can use to confirm with Capitec that the document is genuine. Checking proof of account or proof of payment that way is free; Capitec says there is a fee to validate a bank statement, payable by whoever chooses to validate it, but does not give the amount on its verification page.

Some lenders and businesses can also request your statements through Capitec's Secure Statement Sharing. You approve the request in the app and the business receives the information directly, with no PDF changing hands. Capitec says this is free for personal banking clients.

If the person asking insists on a statement stamped at a branch, ask whether the electronically stamped PDF will do before you go in. It costs less and takes a minute.

How far back you can go, and what it costs

Capitec's personal banking fee guide, valid from 1 March 2026, prices statements covering 1 to 3 months. For the Main Account and Access Anytime they are free on the app, online banking and USSD, and R6.00 at a branch or through the Client Care Centre. Fixed-term and notice deposit statements are free on every channel. For a credit card the first statement is free, and after that a statement is free digitally and R6.00 at a branch.

The guide does not list a price for a statement longer than three months, and Capitec does not publish how many months of history the app will return. If you need six or twelve months, try the longer date range in the app first. If it will not go back far enough, ask at a branch or call 0860 10 20 43, and ask what it will cost before anything is printed.

For business accounts, Capitec's business fee schedule lists the monthly statement as free, and both the business app and business online banking offer electronically stamped statements.

Password-protected Capitec PDFs

Capitec does not publish a standard password for its statement PDFs. If a statement you receive asks for one, look in the email or message it came with for instructions, and if that does not help, ask the Client Care Centre.

The password matters most when you upload the statement somewhere. Capitec's own debit order switch will not accept a password-protected statement, and our converter cannot read one either. Open the PDF with the password, save or print an unlocked copy, and upload that copy instead.

Common problems

  • The Statement option is missing, or the screens look different: update the app. Capitec sends the update through your phone's official app store, and older versions may not match these steps.
  • The app will not install: Capitec supports Android 5.0 and later, iOS 11 and later, and Huawei phones with HMS and EMUI 10. Tablets are not supported, so use a phone or online banking.
  • You need the statement for a debit order switch: Capitec only accepts one that is less than three months old and not password-protected.
  • The recipient thinks the statement might have been altered: point them to the SkyQR code in the top right corner, which they can use to verify it with Capitec.
  • You closed a notice deposit account and the statements are gone from the app: a branch or the Client Care Centre is the place to ask.
  • A stokvel member cannot share a statement: only the main member can generate and share personalised statements.

Self-employed and asked for proof of income?

Lenders and letting agents usually ask a salaried applicant for payslips and a self-employed one for bank statements, often the last three months and often stamped. Ask exactly which months and which format they want before you request anything. If they also want a summary of what you earn, our proof of income letter generator lays your figures out in a format they can read quickly, alongside the statements.

Frequently asked questions

Is a Capitec statement from the app stamped?

Yes. Capitec says statements emailed from the app carry an electronic bank stamp, and its documents include a SkyQR code that lets the recipient check the statement is genuine. Confirm with whoever asked that an electronically stamped statement is acceptable to them.

How much does a Capitec bank statement cost?

Under Capitec's fee guide valid from 1 March 2026, a statement covering 1 to 3 months is free on the app, online banking and USSD, and costs R6.00 at a branch or through the Client Care Centre.

Can I get a Capitec statement without a smartphone?

Yes. Register for USSD banking at a branch and dial *120*3279#, which includes an option to email statements. Online banking on a computer also lets you view and download statements, and a branch can print one for R6.00.

How far back can I get a Capitec statement?

Capitec does not publish a limit. Its fee guide prices statements covering 1 to 3 months. Try a longer range in the app first, and if it does not go back far enough, ask at a branch or call the Client Care Centre on 0860 10 20 43.

What is the password for my Capitec statement PDF?

Capitec does not publish one. Check the email or message the statement came with, or ask the Client Care Centre. Once it is open, save an unlocked copy if you need to upload it anywhere.

Can I convert my Capitec statement to Excel?

Yes. Download the PDF, save an unlocked copy if it has a password, and upload it to our bank statement converter. You need a free account to convert PDFs, and the first 5 pages each month are free.
