Download an Absa statement in the Banking App
- Log in to the Absa Banking App.
- On your home page, select the account you need.
- Tap the Statements tab.
- Select the statement you want to download.
- Select a date range.
- Tap Download to accept the charges. The statement downloads to your device.
Only want to look at your transactions? Tap the Transactions tab and choose a date range instead. Absa's in-app assistant, Abby, can also take you through downloading an eStatement or a stamped statement step by step.
Download a stamped statement in the app
The stamped version sits on the same Statements tab.
- Log in and select the account.
- Tap the Statements tab.
- Select Download stamped statement (.pdf).
- Choose the date range.
- Tap Download, then Done.
Credit card and home loan statements follow a slightly different path. On a credit card you tap Download statement, set the dates and pick a file format. On a home loan you choose Download stamped statement and agree to a disclaimer before you can view or share it.
Download a statement on Absa Online
Absa Online is the better choice when you need several months, because it lets you request, view, send or print archived statements for the past two years.
- Log in to Absa Online.
- Click Accounts on your dashboard.
- Select the account you want a statement for.
- Enter the date range.
- Click Download now, then Continue. The statement downloads to your device.
Absa Online can also email a statement for you. On a Transact account, emailing an archived statement adds R2.00 to the R10.00 archived statement fee.
Get every statement by email (eStatements)
If you would rather not ask each month, register for eStatements. Absa sends each statement to your inbox as a PDF attachment, and on Transact and Ultimate accounts eStatements carry no charge. A posted statement costs R50.00 by comparison.
- Log in to Absa Online.
- Click Profile at the top of the page.
- Choose Manage eStatements and follow the prompts to set the email address your statements go to.
- Your next statement arrives as an email attachment.
You can also register through Absa Cellphone Banking or at a branch. To open the PDF you need Adobe Reader or Striata Reader, and you will be asked for a password, which the email itself explains.
Print a stamped statement at an Absa ATM
Absa says you can print a stamped statement yourself at one of its ATMs, which suits anyone without data or a smartphone. Absa does not publish the ATM menu, so these steps stay general.
- Insert your Absa card at an Absa ATM and enter your PIN.
- Open the statement options and choose a stamped statement, or a full or mini statement if that is all you need.
- Collect the printout and check the account number and dates.
On a Transact account a stamped or full statement at an ATM costs R20.00 and a mini statement R10.00. On Ultimate accounts full and mini statements at an ATM carry no charge, and a stamped statement costs R20.00.
Get a statement at an Absa branch
A branch can give you a statement or a copy of an older one, and Absa's own pages refer to having statements verified and stamped there. It is the most expensive route by a distance. Absa does not publish what to bring for a statement request, so take your card and your ID.
- Take your Absa card and your ID to a branch.
- Ask for a stamped statement, or a copy of a statement, and give the exact months.
- Ask what the charge will be before anything is printed, because it depends on your account.
On a Transact account a stamped or full statement at a branch costs R50.00. Copies of statements cost R50.00 if they are under four months old and R100.00 if they are older. On Ultimate accounts a stamped statement at a branch is R100.00.
Stamped or unstamped: which one do you need?
Absa lists a long line of organisations that accept its stamped statements, among them SARS, the UIF, the Compensation Fund, MultiChoice, Telkom, Vodacom, MTN and insurers. If an embassy, a bond originator or a letting agent asks for statements and does not say which kind, the stamped version is the safer choice. On a Transact account it costs R10.00 in the app or on Absa Online, and it can save you a second trip.
An ordinary eStatement or downloaded statement is fine for your own records, a household budget, your accountant, or turning the transactions into a spreadsheet.
How far back you can go, and what it costs
Absa Online keeps archived statements for the past two years. Absa does not publish a separate limit for the app, an ATM or a branch.
Fees come from Absa's 2026 pricing guide for personal accounts, effective 1 January 2026. For a Transact account:
- Stamped statement: R10.00 on digital channels such as the app and Absa Online, R20.00 at an ATM, R50.00 at a branch.
- Archived statement: R10.00 per statement digitally, plus R2.00 if it is emailed.
- Full statement: R20.00 at an ATM, R50.00 at a branch.
- eStatements: no charge. Posted statements: R50.00.
- Transaction history: no charge digitally, R50.00 at a branch.
Ultimate accounts are priced differently, and student, youth and other accounts have their own tables. Check the guide for your account on Absa's rates and fees page before you pay for a branch statement.
Mini statements on *120*2272#
Absa Cellphone Banking on *120*2272# gives you account mini-statements. That is handy for checking recent transactions on a basic phone, but a mini statement is not something a lender or embassy will accept. Absa does not document full or stamped statements over USSD.
Opening a password-protected eStatement
Absa eStatements are password-protected, and you are prompted for the password when you open the attachment. Absa does not publish the password on its website. Instead it asks you to read the cover letter in the email, which tells you which password to use.
Before you upload the statement to a lender's portal or to our converter, open it with the password and save or print an unlocked copy.
Common problems
- The download never starts: the app and Absa Online both ask you to accept the charges first. Tap Download or Continue on the pop-up.
- The eStatement will not open: check the cover letter for the password, and install Adobe Reader or Striata Reader if you do not have one.
- You cannot find the stamped option: in the current app it is on the Statements tab as Download stamped statement (.pdf). Older Absa help pages describe a three-dot menu from a previous version, so update the app if your screens look different.
- Absa Online only shows ten days of transactions: that is the default view. Enter a date range to see more.
- You need a statement older than two years: Absa Online will not reach it. Ask at a branch, and expect the higher copy fee for statements four months or older.
Self-employed and asked for proof of income?
Lenders and letting agents usually ask a salaried applicant for payslips and a self-employed one for bank statements, often the last three months and often stamped. Ask exactly which months and which format they want before you request anything. If they also want a summary of what you earn, our proof of income letter generator lays your figures out in a format they can read quickly, alongside the statements.
