How to convert a Nedbank statement
- In the Money app, tap More, then Statements and documents, and open Statements.
- Choose the account and the month, and tap the download arrow to save the PDF.
- If the PDF asks for a password, open it and save an unlocked copy, because the converter cannot read a locked file.
- Sign in to Payslip Generator with a free account and open the bank statement converter.
- Upload the PDF. Each page counts once against your free pages for the month.
- Check the preview: the number of transactions, the money in and money out totals, and the balance on the last row.
- Choose the export you need, such as Excel, CSV, or a file for Xero, QuickBooks or Sage, and download it.
What happens to Nedbank's debit and credit columns
A Nedbank statement shows debits and credits in separate columns. The converter merges them into one amount column: a credit stays positive, a debit becomes negative, and the balance is kept as it is.
Where a description runs onto a second line, the converter joins the two lines so each transaction stays on one row. Page footers and the balance brought forward are left out of the export.
| On the Nedbank statement | In the exported file |
|---|---|
| Amount in the Credit column | Positive amount |
| Amount in the Debit column | Negative amount |
| Balance | Balance, unchanged |
| Description over two lines | One description on one row |
Add the net figure shown above the preview to the opening balance on the statement. If you arrive at the closing balance, nothing was dropped or double-counted.
Converting a full year without unnecessary fees
Because Nedbank issues one statement per month, a year of transactions means twelve downloads and twelve uploads. The exported CSV or Excel files can then be pasted one under another into a single sheet.
Watch the cost of older months. Under the 2026 Everyday Banking pricing guide, on MiGoals and MiGoals Plus, the latest three months are free on the app or Online Banking, and each digital statement older than three months costs R12. If you need a full tax year, it can be cheaper to download each month as it becomes available than to fetch all twelve at once in March.
- Latest three months on the app or Online Banking: free on MiGoals and MiGoals Plus.
- Older than three months, digitally: R12 each.
- MiGoals Premium lists the latest and previous months' digital statements as free.
Kiosk and ATM printouts
Nedbank's self-service kiosks and ATMs print statements and transaction history. Those are useful when someone wants a stamped document in hand, but paper cannot be converted, and a photo or scan of a printout has no text for the converter to read.
For a spreadsheet, always start from the PDF in the app or on Online Banking. It carries the same e-confirm stamp and the converter can read every line.
Uploading a CSV instead
If you have your Nedbank transactions as a CSV with a Transaction Description column, upload it directly. The converter recognises that layout and maps the date, description, amount and balance into its standard columns.
A CSV is read in your browser, does not need an account and counts as one page however long it is. When the figures must match an official statement, convert the PDF.
Before you upload
- A free account converts 5 pages a month. Each PDF page counts as one, and a CSV counts as one however long it is. After that you can buy credits, and Premium subscribers convert without a monthly page limit.
- One PDF upload can be up to 20 pages and 8 MB. Split anything longer by month.
- The PDF must have selectable text. A scanned or photographed statement has none, so download the digital version from online banking instead.
- Password-protected PDFs have to be unlocked first. Our guide to password-protected bank statements shows how.
- Where a statement prints dates without the year, the converter takes the year from the statement period. If a statement runs from December into January, check those dates in the preview.
- A PDF is read in memory over an encrypted connection and is not saved. A CSV never leaves your browser.
Frequently asked questions
Can I convert a Nedbank statement to Excel for free?
Yes. A free account converts 5 pages a month. After that you can buy credits, and Premium subscribers convert without a monthly page limit.
Can I convert a whole year of Nedbank statements at once?
Nedbank issues one statement per month, so convert each one and paste the exported files together. Statements older than three months carry a fee from Nedbank on most accounts.
Can I convert a statement printed at a Nedbank kiosk?
No. The converter needs a digital PDF with selectable text. Download the same statement from the Money app or Online Banking instead.
Does the e-confirm stamp affect the conversion?
No. The converter reads the transactions and ignores the stamp. Keep the original PDF for anyone who needs the stamped document.
Is my Nedbank statement stored when I convert it?
No. A PDF is sent over an encrypted connection, read in memory, and the transactions are sent back to your browser. The file itself is not saved.
